Deep down funky jazz organ at it's peak, 2 albums:

Jack McDuff - Down Home Style

Stepping out from the shadow of Hammond maestro Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff forged his own deeply soulful organ sound in a handful of '60s Blue Note sessions. His approach is rootsier and more minimal than Smith's. McDuff's playing can be summed up with the title of this album. While jazz purists may scoff at the lack of subtlety and emotional range, there is no denying the delicious, feel-good grooves contained on DOWN HOME STYLE. Backed by a stellar bass, and tenor saxophonist Jay Arnold lending color, McDuff's fat, intoxicating organ sound and well-paced attack drive such numbers as "Theme From Electric Surfboard," "Butter (Fo Yo Popcorn)," and "As She Walked Away". Suitable for both listening and sampling, the funky energy and laid-back sass of DOWN HOME STYLE are as tasty and satisfying as the plate of ribs, beans, cornbread, and collard greens pictured on the album's cover.

Jimmy McGriff - Electric Funk

Jimmy McGriff. The man who at the age of 16, having played the bass, the drums, alto sax and some other instruments, was still trying to find `his' instrument. It took the invention of the Hammond B3 to finally give Jimmy an instrument that "would push me more than I could push it." ELECTRIC FUNK is one of Jimmy's funkiest albums ever; a sweet batch of short, hard, and funky cuts. The album's great all the way through; tight arrangements by Horace Ott, who also plays electric piano on the set, making for a clean, cool 2-keys kind of groove, and some amazing drumming.

Its a real pity about the copyright police coming down on this blog as I think its shares are of a great quality, many of them hard to find, and the considered and passionate notes provided, enhance what is lacking in today's society; musical education.
Many thanks guys and gals,
GWA.
